I have stuff that I have used Sysex messages with. I have an Express XT, but come to think of it, I don't recall if I ever tried Sysex through it. * Front panel programmability welcome (kind of a given in case of a standalone unit like JL Cooper)

* Standalone is fine, computer connectivity a bonus but not a must
KMX 8X8 MIDI PATCHBAY PLUS
No USB connection, but they are out of production, rare to find, and I'm not sure if 220V versions exist at all, so I would need a step-up transformer for it (or swap the PSU internally, hoping that the replacement wouldn't be buzzy as fvck like the one I got for ME80P!).Īudio Architecture Function Junction Plus - not much info about this one?Īlyseum a88 - found some posts that its jitter performance is a bit bad? JL Cooper MSB 16/20 or Synapse - this seems like the holy grail and exactly what I need. So this one is collecting dust and probably going to be sold, or taken to trash (as it had a PSU swap and the new PSU that's in buzzes like crazy - and loud!). Kinda expensive at 500€/piece.ĪKAI ME80P - I actually have this one, but it doesn't do merging very well - it sends the merged inputs only to ONE output, can't send the merged inputs to ALL the outputs. Also I would need two units for what I need, if I'm calculating the connectivity scheme correctly. I don't need that - I want all my connections in the back, so that would be a waste of one set of ports. MOTU MIDIExpress XT USB - I heard it has issues with SysEx transfers? Is that still a thing or was it fixed via firmware update? Also I dislike how they put a set of MIDI IN/OUTs on the front panel. Now, I've browsed a bit for some options. Some units are multitimbral (FS1R, N1R, TR-Rack.) so they need a whole MIDI port all for themselves, so any daisy-chaining is out of question. If I figure things correctly, I need crapload of ports to make this happen, I need to merge the MIDI outs from PC3K8 and my audio interface to be able to control them all and record/playback everything properly. Boy, was that a stupid idea! I got a bunch of cables that don't even send or receive SysEx!!! To the bin they went. Also, I plan on adding more rack synths in due time, so ideally I'd need something that has a few ports extra.įirst I tried ordering a bunch of USB-MIDI cables from eBay and using a USB hub. What I want is to be able to control all of them from my PC3K8, AND my computer, and be able to do SysEx dumps and receives on ALL of those racks to my computer (not possible to do dumps for Blofeld, as it only has a MIDI IN, but can be done via USB).
KMX 8X8 MIDI PATCHBAY UPGRADE
The picture below shows the damaged rack ear on one of the units I am selling.I'm looking to bring my racks together to my master MIDI controller (Kurzweil PC3K8) and my computer (currently using TC Electronic Impact Twin, but at some point will upgrade to RME FF802). Cost of shipping includes insurance.ĭAMAGED UNITS PRICE: £110.00 plus £15.00 p&p to UK mainland. I didn't think photographing the unit with damage to the chassis around the MIDI inputs sockets was worth it, to be honest. The last picture shows the damage on the unit with the damaged rack ear. I have therefore chosen a price for the damaged units that I feel reflects their condition. Both units are totally functional but were damaged in transit when I originally bought them off eBay many years ago. One is perfect, one has damage on the rear around the MIDI input sockets and one has a damaged left rack ear. NOTE: It doesn’t support MIDI merge so you can’t select two inputs and rout them to one output.

The well laid out buttons easily allow you to select an input and route it to as many outputs as you like.

I have a few of these ‘cos they’re just so reliable. Roland developed the A-880 in the late eighties so they’re quite old. If you have a lot of MIDI outboard gear or synthesisers, then you need one of these.
